'The Sure Word of Prophecy' represents our attempt to create a comprehensive overview of the fulfillment of Bible prophecy in history via chart format.
The chart takes the classic historicist view of Bible prophecy—the view taken by the majority of protestant scholars from the time of the Reformation until the early twentieth century when the historicist view began to fall out of favor as the futurist school gained wide acceptance. For those unfamiliar with this view, historicism is a school of prophetic interpretation which understands the prophecies of the Old and New Testaments (mainly the Books of Daniel and Revelation) as unfolding in a continuous manner from the times when they were written, down to the second advent. Historicism is to be contrasted with futurism and preterism which understand the Books of Daniel and Revelation to be describing events mostly at the close of this age, or in the first century respectively. Sadly, many Christians in our time are completely unaware of the historicist view of Bible prophecy and are only familiar with the futurist and sensationalist views expressed by authors such as Hal Lindsay, Tim LaHaye, and Jack Van Impe. The fact is, much of Bible Prophecy, including most of the Book of Revelation has already found its fulfillment in history. The historic fulfillment of these prophecies has taken place in a most remarkable way, and should be a source of comfort and inspiration to all Christians as we see the hand of God at work through the ages. Only the One who knew the 'end from the beginning' could have given us such a detailed account in advance of what was to transpire over future centuries. |
Many features have been updated in this revision to add functionality and clarity. Sections of the chart are broken out by topic so that each subject can be followed left to right across the timeline. These sections can be toggled off and on via the contents panel at the top left of the chart making comparison of any two or more sections much easier. All scripture references are tagged so the scriptures can be viewed simply by hovering over them. Clicking on a scripture will open Biblia.com in a new window so that the context of the scriptures can be checked, or read in another version.
I have also added links to further reading material in the information 'boxes' that appear in some sections of the chart. This material is crucial to understanding why many events appear on the timeline where they do, and give important historical information on prophetic events so that the reader can see more clearly how many events have been fulfilled throughout history. The material on this chart represents more than twenty years of research. It presents one of the most complete prophecy charts from the historicist perspective available anywhere. While I encourage comments and questions about this work, I have no desire to engage in argumentative discussions so please keep that in mind if you plan to comment or to email me. Most of all, I pray that this work will be a source of strength and encouragement to all believers. We truly can know that our God is sovereign, his word is sure and true, and that our Lord is coming soon. 2 Peter 1:19 |
I am indebted to the work of those great historicist authors who have gone before, on whose shoulders I have stood, and who have edified my spirit and enlightened my understanding. It is to the memory of these giants of learning and faith - men such as Isaac Newton, E.B. Elliott, Robert Fleming, Charles Daubuz, Joseph Mede, Benjamin Marshall, and George Faber - that this work is dedicated.
STATUS UPDATE July 4th, 2023 - This revision (V. 3.8) contains a new calculation for the all-important period of 1260 years. This period is marked in prophecy as the time of the Beast's power as well as the time period in which the Temple would be trampled, and Christ's Two Witnesses would prophesy in sackcloth. This new calculation uses the most accurate method possible given the changes to calendar reckoning over time. Each year is taken as 365.2425 days; thus 1260 years = 460,205 days. A solution as to the correct identification of this period can be shown to be accurate to a single day. I hope to add a detailed note soon.
June 20th, 2023 - I have reworked the section 'The Mystery of the Revelation' in order to make it easier to follow. It is now divided into two separate but connected sections which makes it easier to follow on smaller screens. Added more dates within the timeline. Cleanup of visual glitches and typos.
June 13th, 2023 - Added notes for the Vial Judgments from E. B. Elliott's Horae Apocalypticae. These can be found in the "Seven Sealed Scroll" Section.
June 12th, 2023 - Clarified time periods for "Great White Throne" and "Ages of the Ages" seen at the far right end of the chart.
June 1st, 2023 - Clarified some points in the 'Olivet Discourse and Epistles' Section.
August 23rd, 2022 - Our latest revision is now available. A Journal post detailing the changes will follow shortly. The older version is now available in the The Chart Archive.
