ABOUT TIME CALCULATIONS USED ON THIS CHART

Time calculations on this chart use the standard day/year principle which has been used by historicist interpreters since the reformation period.  In passages of symbolic prophecy each day is taken for a year, thus a period of 1260 days is taken for 1260 prophetic years.

However, due to changes in the calendar year over many centuries, this chart uses a method of converting prophetic years into actual calendar years.  This system was used by many historicists. particularly Robert Fleming in the 18th century.

In this, each year is taken to be 12 months of 30 days or 360 days per year.  Therefor a period of 1260 prophetic years calculates as follows:

(1260 x 360 days per year) / 365.24 calendar days.

These calculations allow for consistency across all periods and work out in the following way:

THE PROPHECY OF THE TWO WITNESSES - REVELATION 11

A NOTE ON THE HISTORICAL SEQUENCE AND INTERPRETATION PRESENTED HERE
 
The prophecy of the Two Witnesses is one of the most detailed, yet enigmatic prophecies in the Book of Revelation, and it's proper interpretation has long been a source of confusion for many expositors.

However, a study of the history of the period in question when compared to the details given in the prophecy makes it's proper understanding plain, and also stands as one of the greatest proofs of the inspiration of prophecy, and of the workings of the spirit of God throughout history.

Historicist interpreters are nearly unanimous in their interpretation of the fifth and sixth trumpet judgments which saw the rise of Islam and the devastating invasions which culminated in the extermination of the eastern Roman Empire with the fall of Constantinople in the year 1453.  It is precisely at this point where there is a break in the prophetic sequence, and it is here that we are given the prophecies of the Temple Trampled, and of the Two Witnesses, both of which are to continue 1260 prophetic years.  It is at the close of this period that the Two Witnesses are to be slain, and then raised up after three and one half prophetic years.  It is only after these events that the Sixth Trumpet comes to a close. 

Therefore it is clear that we should look for these events; the slaying of the The Two Witnesses, their resurrection, the great earthquake in which the tenth part of the city was to fall etc. within historical events shortly following those which so clearly immediately precede them within the prophetic sequence of events - namely the destruction of the eastern empire and the fall of Constantinople in 1453.

And remarkably, we find in the opening of Revelation 10 a vision which  exactly corresponds with the history of this period; an Angel having a 'little book' which the apostle is commanded to consume.  It was in the year 1454 that the invention of the printing press produced the first printed Bibles which facilitated the widespread reading of the Scriptures and which brought forth the great Protestant Reformation.

And it is in the events of this Reformation, and the bloody counter-reformation and religious wars which followed in it's aftermath that we look for, and find the historical events which correspond in every detail with those given in the prophecies concerning the Two Witnesses, the war of the beast against them, their laying slain for three and a half prophetic  years, their resurrection, and the fall one tenth of the Papal empire at the same period in which these events transpired.  Events, all of which precede the close of the sixth trumpet judgment.

I ask the reader to carefully consider the interpretation of this prophecy as presented here along with the material given in Box A to the left.  Surely history is the greatest interpreter of prophecy.

Prior to the Seventh Trumpet, only those who led a life of dedicated self-sacrifice and / or martyrdom ascend to be with the Savior immediately upon death.  This was the resurrection to which the apostle Paul hoped to attain.

THE PROPHECY OF THE 1000 YEARS - REVELATION 20

A NOTE ON THE INTERPRETATION HERE PRESENTED
 
While the interpretive position as shown on this chart is amillennial, it differs somewhat from other standard amillennial interpretations.  There are several reasons for this.

First, it is our position that in the prophecies of Revelation, the Great Dragon is emblematic of pagan, idolatrous kingdoms in opposition to the kingdom of God.  Therefore, it is to the binding of these pagan powers that we look in interpreting these symbols.

Second, it is also our position that the Bible is clear about the death-state; that man has no inherent immortal soul, and that mankind in general must sleep until the times of resurrection in the last trumpet.  It is our position that the first resurrection does indicate a hope of rising to life prior to that time, but only for those who by a life of intense self-sacrifice or martyrdom attain to it.

Third, with regard to the timing of the 1000 years, we have attempted to synchronize the visions of the dragon as seen in Revelation 12-13, and Revelation 20.  It is our belief that the dragon cannot go into the abyss until the last of its pagan ten horns is crowned upon the beast to whom it gives its power and authority.  The ten pagan kingdoms which destroyed the western Roman Empire are those which are symbolized on the seventh head of the dragon, and the last of these kingdoms, being overthrown and submitted to the beast represents the time when the dragon becomes bound.  All of the periods in which this take place fall under the period of the fifth trumpet when the abyss is opened.  Hence, as the beast rises from the abyss, the dragon is cast into the abyss.

It should not be thought that the binding up of the dragon represents the absence  of wickedness in the world.  While the beast represents a wicked apostate form of 'Christianity', the atheistic, idolatrous paganism would not rise again until the time of the French Revolution, and has progressed with increasing intensity until this day.  After Revelation 13, it is only until a time within that of the seventh trumpet that we again hear of the dragon.

Finally, we must concede that the phrase '1000 years' in our interpretation cannot be taken on the prophetic day / year scale and may be largely symbolic as it represents the heavenly  reign of those who 'loved not their lives unto death'.  It is however interesting that in the scheme as we have presented it, the period from which the dragon is bound to the period in which it is released, when the atheistic, paganistic spirit which gave rise to the French Revolution first appeared, is in fact roughly 1000 years.

NOTE CONCERNING THE OLIVET DISCOURSE AND

The prophecies generally known as the 'Olivet Discourse' are some of the most misunderstood in all of scripture.  While most see these as primarily 'end-time' prophecies pertaining to the second coming of Christ, a closer examination reveals that their primary application is to the first century destruction of Jerusalem and of the temple..

The misunderstanding stems mostly from a primary misunderstanding of what is being described in Matthew 24:29-31 and parallel passages.  These passages, describing cataclysmic celestial signs immediately followed by Christ 'coming in the clouds', when taken as descriptions of the second coming make them nearly impossible to square with a first century application of preceding events, if in fact those apply to the first century.

However, when all of the scriptural evidence is examined and brought to bear on this subject, it will be seen that the celestial events and the coming of Christ in the clouds of heaven in Matt 24:29-31, are not in fact describing the second coming at all, even though we've been conditioned to reflexively read them in that way.

It can bee shown from the Old Testament that language describing the same types of cosmic events is repeatedly used to describe the cataclysmic overthrow of kingdoms.  Equally, it can be shown from Daniel 7:13-14 that the 'Son of Man coming in the clouds of heaven' is not a reference to Christ coming back to the earth, but rather coming TO the Father to receive a kingdom.

Thus in all of this it is clearly shown that most of the prophecy given in the Olivet Discourse has a first century application, and that the language used is fitting to describe the overthrow of the Jewish nation as a vindication of Christ's enthronement in heaven.

THE WHEAT AND THE TARES

COMPARING THE GREAT TRIBULATION IN
MATTHEW 24 AND REVELATION 6

This sub-chart shows the direct correlation between the signs  preceding the destruction of Jerusalem given by Jesus in his Olivet discourse with the first six seals in the Book of Revelation.  This shows that the events symbolized in these seal judgments are emblematic of those events.  Thus the first six seal judgments describe the passing away of the Jewish dispensation, while it's aftermath and the seventh seal describe the Christian dispensation.
